Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan says the Police Service and the Transport Commissioner are conducting two separate investigations into Tuesday’s horrific accident, which saw two people being killed and 48 others injured.
32 illegal immigrants have been arrested by Police after being found in Penal.
Police say Officers from the South Western Division and Immigration Division were conducting an exercise. They held seven persons at a house in Suchit Trace, Penal, while 23 others were discovered in a Penal bar. Police say 31 out of the 32 held were Venezuelan Nationals, while one is from Guyana. Nine persons were given notices and allowed to leave, while the others are being held. Police say three persons were also arrested for gaming machine offences. Investigations are ongoing.
The country's murder count continues to climb. this after a 28-year-old Cocorite man was shot and killed by men dressed as Police Officers.
Police say around three this morning Curtis Franklyn, of Ratchet Hill, Waterhole, was asleep at his home when two men dressed in camouflage gear claiming to be Police Officers entered his home. Franklyn tried to escape through a rear door but was shot several times. Officers from the St James Police Station responded and found Franklyn lying on the ground outside. He was taken to hospital where he died.
Police are on the hunt for an Arima Businessman, after 23 pounds of cocaine were seized at the Port of Point Lisas on Friday bound for St. Martin. Police say the illegal drug carries a street value of nine million TT dollars.
Reports say around midday, Customs Officers were scanning a container at the port when they picked up something suspicious. The container was taken to the examination station. There Custom Officers noticed what appeared to be cocaine hidden inside the container loaded with foodstuff.
