A 26-year-old Cocorite man was shot several times while driving his car along the Western Main Road in Cocorite.
Investigators told Guardian Media that the man was driving west along the Western Main Road in his Nissan Note vehicle around 10:45 am when a car pulled alongside him and a gunman opened fire.
The assailants then sped off.
The man was rushed to the St James Medical Health facility where he was treated.
Police say they have not been able to establish a motive for the shooting.

Three students were treated for injuries and mental trauma, after a drive-by shooting on Belmont Circular Road Wednesday afternoon.
Two of the injured, aged 6 and 15, were the children of a known gang leader.
They were rushed to the Port of Spain General Hospital for emergency treatment.
The shooting took place outside the Providence High School around 2.40 pm, less than 200 metres from the Belmont Police Station.

At least 11 people have been killed and six hospitalised in a shooting incident in Virginia Beach.
Virginia Beach Police Department said the incident occurred at a city municipal building Friday afternoon.
It was unclear whether all six patients had gunshot wounds.
Police say the suspected shooter was killed by police.

A 15-year-old minor is due to appear before the Port of Spain Children’s Court today, after being charged with shooting with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The teenaged boy, of Caroni, was also charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition following advice received from Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Joan Honore Paul, on Friday 8th March, 2019.

A gunman who fired upon a Venezuelan woman and a man near Classic Seamen Club in Marabella on Sunday remains at large.
Police said they are having difficulty in getting information about the suspect who opened fire on Angus Mc Bernie, 39, of Irie Branch Road, Princes Town and Christobalina Nunezmora, 39, of Venezuelan national of Elizabeth Street, Marabella.
Both are now warded in a stable condition at the San Fernando General Hospital.
They were rushed to the hospital by patrons after the gunman shot Mc Bernie twice in the leg and once in the abdomen.

A Diego Martin man is now dead after shooting himself in his head, in what appeared to be a bad game gone wrong.
Ben Ambrose was at Union Road in Diego Martin when he accidentally shot himself in the head.
According to reports, Ambrose was with a friend and put the gun to his head as a joke.
The friend warned him not to play with the gun because it was loaded.
However, Ambrose thought it was all a joke and continued to pull the trigger.
He died at the scene.
Police are continuing investigations.
Police are also investigating another shooting in downtown Port-of-Spain that has left a man fighting for his life at hospital.
Reports indicate that a PH driver was shot while at the corner of Nelson Street and Independence Square.

Officers of the Woodbrook Police Station were on mobile patrol around 2:45 am around the Queen’s Park Savannah when they responded to a request for assistance from officers of an Emergency Response Patrol Unit, who were pursuing two robbery suspects on foot toward Lady Chancellor Hill.
When officers arrived at the location, they observed two male suspects walking along Lady Chancellor Road.
A 54-year-old man who was shot in at the corner of Prince and Charlotte streets today, appears to have been an innocent victim just going about his daily affairs.
Gerald Hendrickson of Diego Martin is now in hospital in a serious condition after being shot twice in his stomach.
CCTV video shows Hendrickson coming out of a food outlet when a gunman, who was running and shot at another man, appeared to have fired indiscriminately at him.
Police have held a suspect and are investigating.
