Judges asked to join Judiciary workers' struggle

Judges and mag­is­trates have been in­vit­ed to join with their ju­di­cial sup­port staff to protest im­pend­ing re­struc­tur­ing with­in the Ju­di­cia­ry.

Op­po­si­tion Sen­a­tor Ger­ald Ramdeen made the call dur­ing an im­promp­tu speech to scores of Ju­di­cia­ry work­ers who gath­ered on the steps of the Hall of Jus­tice, Port-of-Spain, to con­tin­ue their protest around mid­day yes­ter­day.

Works begins on bat-infested school

Four months af­ter the Rio Claro AS­JA Pri­ma­ry was shut down be­cause of a bat in­fes­ta­tion, re­me­di­al work has fi­nal­ly start­ed on the di­lap­i­dat­ed school.

In an in­ter­view, PTA pres­i­dent Ve­da Ma­haraj, who led a protest last week, said she was hap­py to see con­trac­tors on site do­ing re­pairs to the roof.

Since Oc­to­ber, pupils have been at­tend­ing class­es at the Rio Claro Pres­by­ter­ian School and the Rio Claro Masjid.

Works minister disappointed with protest, wants police to take action

Minister of Works and Infrastructure Rohan Sinanan says he’s disappointed with residents of Fishing Pond Road in Sangre Grande who this morning blocked the roadway with burning debris to protest its condition.

There have been several protests there over the years and last year a segment of the road was paved. However, residents living beyond where the paving stopped as asking when the rest of the roadway will be attended to.

Protest by Rio Claro ASJA Primary over delay in repairs

More than a week after the government announced that repairs would start at Rio Claro ASJA Primary school, parents staged a protest outside the Ministry's office at Rio Claro on Friday.

The parents have been waiting for work to begin since the school was closed last September and when they saw no mobilization of contractors this week, they decided to take protest action.

Careful not to block the roads or pavement, the parents lined up on the pavements outside the office chanting, "Fix the School now."
