Marlene rushed to hospital; doctors performing tests

Port-of-Spain East Member of Parliament Marlene McDonald has been rushed to hospital to undergo medical tests.

Initial reports had appeared to suggest that McDonald had suffered a stoke just after 1pm this afternoon but Minister of Communication, Stuart Young confirmed that it was not so.

Young told CNC3 that McDonald was feeling unwell and as a precautionary measure she went to the hospital where medical checks are being conducted.

He said that at this stage, thankfully, it does not appear as though she suffered any stroke or heart attack.

Three new ultrasound machines for nation's hospitals

The Ministry of Health has acquired three additional state-of-the-art, advanced ultrasound machines to improve the quality of healthcare provided in our public hospitals for mothers and their babies.

The ministry says these new machines will strengthen Obstetrics and Gynaecology Ultrasound services at the Regional Health Authorities and are currently in use at the Port of Spain General Hospital, Mt. Hope Women’s Hospital and the San Fernando General Hospital.

Hospital needs help finding patient's next of kin

The North West Regional Health Authority is seeking the public’s assistance in locating the relatives or next of kin of a patient who initially identified himself as Tony Joseph.

He was brought into the Accident & Emergency department on the 26th of March, 2018 via ambulance and is currently warded at the Intensive Care Unit of the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.

He is:

· 54 years old (Born on 19th September, 1963)

· African Descent

· 6ft in height

· Slim built

· Dark brown complexion

· Approximately 143 lbs

Cramped neonatal unit ‘infecting’ babies

Weeping for his brain-damaged son Riley, who was taken from his mother’s womb by doctors forceps during an arduous delivery, Randy Jaglal yesterday called for Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh’s intervention, saying babies were at risk in the old San Fernando General hospital.

Man breaches Petrotrin's refinery border, now under police guard at hospital

A man who breached the fence at Petrotrin's Pointe-A-Pierre refinery  is now under police guard at the San Fernando General Hospital for injuries he sustained in a confrontation with security guards.

Petrotrin says that on Wednesday, 2018 February 21, Pet0rotrin’s Estate Police detained a member of the public who breached the perimeter of the fence bordering the company’s Pointe-a-Pierre refinery.

According to initial reports, at approximately 1:30 a.m. Petrotrin’s security officers, on patrol in a secure area of the refinery, spotted an unauthorized person in the area.

Will hospital equipment dry rot?

By the time the Ministry of Health is ready to occupy the Children’s Hospital, in Couva, later this year, millions of dollars in equipment could be useless, according to former Health Minister Dr Fuad Khan.

But current Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh says an audit will have to be done to assess the functionality of the equipment before the hospital comes fully on stream.

Health Ministry says it's committed to opening Couva hospital

The Ministry of Health says it notes "the ongoing and justified national interest" in the Couva Children’s Hospital and is committed to opening the facility.

A statement by the ministry notes that the facility was commissioned by the then Prime Minister, Kamla Persad Bissessar, on August 14th , 2015 a mere three weeks before the 2015 general election.
