Santa Cruz businesswoman charged with fraud

A Santa Cruz woman is remanded into custody, after appearing before a Port of Spain Magistrate, charged with trafficking in counterfeit cards, possession of a fraudulent driver’s permit and obtaining goods by dishonoured cheque.

Ayoka Mollick, 40, a businesswoman, of Foster Road, Santa Cruz, appeared before Magistrate Kerri Honore-Narine, in the Port of Spain 1st Magistrates’ Court, on Monday 16th April, 2018, to answer to the charges.

Five foreign nationals charged with gun & ammunition possession

Five foreign nationals are expected to appear before a Siparia Magistrate today, charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The accused were arrested during an anti-crime exercise in the Erin district, over the weekend.

Robert Martinnez, 30, of the Dominican Republic, and Michael Herrera, 27; Angel Bravo, 24; Adrian Arzolay, 23; and Roger Maijas, 23; all of Venezuela, were arrested by officers of the Erin Police Station, on Saturday 14th April, 2018.

Man charged for daring jewelry heist

A man who was apprehended and later freed during the 2011 State of Emergency has been arrested in connection with the jewelry heist at RT Jewellers in San Fernando.

Several rings and bracelets identified as being stolen from the store were found after police raided the man’s home on Broadway, San Fernando last week. The 29-year-old who has several convictions for robbery, larceny and firearm offences will appear before a San Fernando Magistrate today charged with receiving stolen goods.

Customs officer charged with importing US$149,960 in concealed packages

A Customs Officer with over 15 years’ service with the Customs and Excise Division, is expected to appear before an Arima Magistrate today, charged with importation of prohibited goods and importation of concealed goods to deceive Customs officials.

The offenses occurred on Monday 12th March, 2018.

Radesh Ramnath, 44, of Penal, was arrested at Amerijet Caribbean Express Limited Bond Piarco, after US$149,960 in cash was found concealed in seven packs of Hanes vests, in a manner calculated to deceive Customs officials, contrary to the Customs Act.

Prison Officer charged after contraband items, marijuana found in locker

A Prison Officer I, with 15 years’ service with the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service, is expected to appear before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate today, charged with misbehavior in public office, after several contraband items were discovered in his locker at the Port-of-Spain Prison on Tuesday 23rd January, 2018.

Nigel Marshall, 44, of La Horquetta, Arima, was also charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, by Sgt. Vaughn Narcis of the Port of Spain CID, following advice received from Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Joan Honore-Paul.

Another Republic Bank employee charged with fleecing $253,500 from customers' accounts

Another Republic Bank employee has charged with fleecing money from the accounts of bank customers, police said in a couple of tweets later Thursday.

Nikisha Winter-Roach faces 19 counts larceny servant; 6 counts forgery and 6 counts of uttering forged documents involving $253,500 over the period May 2011-June 2017.

Winter-Roach, 37, was charged by ASP Wayne Abbot of the Fraud Squad today and will appear before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate on Friday.

The Fraud Squad had been called in by the bank to investigate the alleged theft.

Three charged with stealing plaintains

Three men appeared before an Arima Magistrate on Tuesday after they were charged with stealing a quantity of plantain.

The men Kapil Daber, Siewpersad Ramdass and Hemraj Ramdass all pleaded not guilty when they appeared before Magistrate Gosein at the Arima Magistrates' Court.

Reports indicate that the men were seen around 4:30 am on January 29th at a farm located along Sellier Street, Wallerfield.

A report was made to the police and the Northern Division Task Force responded and arrested all three men.

Taxi driver charged with murder of common-law wife

A Chaguanas man is expected to appear before a Chaguanas Magistrate, charged with the murder of his former common-law wife, Arisa Vana David, which occurred on Tuesday 2nd January, 2018.

Joseph Bryan Bennett, 36, a taxi driver, of Chase Village, Chaguanas, was charged with murder following advice received from Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Joan Honore-Paul on Sunday.

David, 25, also of Chase Village, Chaguanas, was found dead in the bedroom of her home around 8:30 am by her daughters - ages eight and three.

Charged with fraud after allegedly collecting money with promise of an HDC house

A Rousillac woman has appeared before a San Fernando Magistrate charged with four counts of larceny amounting to $42,500 between Friday 19th August, 2016 and Thursday 10th August, 2017.

Indira Rangoo-Solomon, 30, of Mon Desir Road, Rousillac, was charged with larceny of the sums of $20,000, $15,000, $5,000 and $2,500, after being arrested by officers of the Fraud Squad during an anti-crime exercise conducted between Tuesday and Wednesday in the Southern Division.

DPP instructs that Anand Ramlogan be charged

Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard has given instructions for former Attorney General Anand Ramlogan to be charged with misbehaviour in public office and attempting to pervert the course of justice. The charges are to be read to him today. He will appear in court today to answer the charges.

After 12 hours of questioning following his dawn arrest by police yesterday, Ramlogan remained in custody at Police Headquarters, Port-of-Spain last night.
