Senator Allyson West to act in Marlene's absence

Prime minister Dr Keith Rowley has advised the president, her excellency Paula Mae-Weekes that minister of public administration, Marlene McDonald is unable to perform her duties by reason of illness.

The prime minister has asked the president to appoint Senator Allyson West to act as the minister of public administration with effect from Thursday, July 12, and continuing during the illness of minister McDonald.

Minister West will perform these duties in addition to her role as minister in the ministry of finance.

The recently appointed minister of public administration Marlene Mc Donald has been hospitalised for the second time in recent weeks.

In June, Ms Mc Donald was hospitalised briefly after complaining of feeling unwell, she was said to be treated for an existing medical condition. 

 She again fell sick last Saturday.

The nature of her illness has not been disclosed, however, information coming from the communications ministry is that Ms Mc Donald is seriously ill and remains warded at the St. Clair Medical Centre.
