One of two officials of the Port Authority who had been reported as suspended is tonight clearing the air.
Charmaine Lewis says she remains an active member of the Port Authority board.
The following is a statement issued today.
"It has come to my attention that it is being widely carried in the print and news media that I have been suspended from my duties at the PATT.
This widely circulated state of affairs is wholly erroneous.
In addition to my position as executive manager, I am also a Fellow of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants of the United Kingdom (FCCA), and it will be pellucid that the aforesaid false reports of my suspension as a consequence of any investigation into the procurement of any vessel for use on the sea bridge, will be damaging to me in my professional capacity. Indeed, not only has this false narrative put my professional accreditations at risk but I have been subjected to a barrage of negative comments and enquiries from both local and international interests.
The said false narrative has also caused me personal distress and embarrassment which unfortunately has also extended to members of my family.
I therefore ask that all members of the media immediately correct all statements and/or reports of my suspension from duties and that such retractions be given the same prominence and coverage as the false reports of my suspension.
I have consulted my attorneys on this issue and should you fail to accede to my request to retract/correct the reports of my suspension from duties I will have no other choice but to take such legal actions as advised to protect my professional reputation and to defend the defamatory statements which have been widely circulated by almost all of the local media houses."
