Maraval man in court on gun and ammunition charges

A Maraval man, charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition, is scheduled to appear before the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 11th July, 2018, to answer the charges.

Cleon Ronain, 33, of Beau Près Road, Maraval, was arrested by officers of the Maracas Bay Police Station, during a stop and search exercise in the Maracas Bay district on Monday 9th July, 2018.

The exercise, which was led by Sgt. Stephen Dowridge, of the Maracas Bay Police Station, took place between 3:15pm and 5:00pm and also included officers of the Coastal Patrol Unit.

While conducting the exercise, officers had cause to stop and search a black Nissan X-trail motor vehicle with a female driver and two male passengers.

The search revealed a Glock pistol and 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition hidden in the glove compartment of the vehicle.

Romain was arrested in connection with the find and subsequently charged by PC Shaquille McWilliams, of the Maracas Bay Police Station.
