Bandit shot as police foil armed robbery

One man is shot and wounded during an exchange of gunfire with police, after officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force, thwarted an armed robbery in progress at Nelson Street, Port of Spain, last night.

Police said in a statement today that officers were on mobile patrol along Prince Street, Port of Spain, around 9:25 pm, on Tuesday 13th February, 2018, when they responded to a report of two armed suspects, robbing the occupants of a white Kia motor vehicle along Nelson Street.

The two suspects ran off upon seeing the officers, who gave chase.

An exchange of gunfire ensued, between the suspects and the officers, during which one of the suspects, a 28-year-old man, of Port of Spain, was shot in the groin area.

He was taken to Port of Spain General Hospital for treatment.

One Taurus pistol, loaded with a magazine containing five rounds of 9mm ammunition, were seized at the scene.

The second suspect escaped.
